EPIDAUROS
|
 |
The theatre of epidauros. The best preserved and restored ancient Greek theatre, in the sanctuary of Asklepios. Built in two phases, in the late 4th century BC and the mid-2nd century BC, it hosted contests in music and singing, as well as performances of plays. It is one of the most perfect expressions of the structure of theatrical space in Antiquity. In 1954 the 'Epidauros Festival' of Ancient drama was inaugurated, which has been held annually ever since. |
